Pensioners and also residents in Wirral who receive Child Benefit may be entitled to more Housing or Council Tax Benefit due to changes which came into effect this month.
From this month Wirral Borough Council will ignore up to £10,000 of capital held by pensioners when processing applications for Housing or Council Tax Benefit. Additionally the Council will no longer consider Child Benefit as income when people apply for assistance. This means that some residents who did not previously qualify because of their income may well now be entitled to extra help.
To check as to whether or not you may be now entitled to help with your rent or Council Tax, you will need to fill out an application form which can be obtained by either visiting any One Stop Shop, phoning the call centre on 606 2002 or by logging onto the benefits section of the Council’s website
Another example of the Labour Government giving real assistance to help people through the recession as opposed to the do nothing Tories who would let the recession take its course.
