Change We Choose

Labour Is Working

Figures published by the independent Office of National Statistics yesterday, show that the UK economy has begun growing again, with GDP growth estimated at 0.1% for the last quarter of 2009.At the same time, a report by experts at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) warned against withdrawing government support from the economy too soon.
Whilst there is no doubt that this is good news, there can be no room for complacency as NW Regional Minister Phil Woolas explains:

This is good news for the North West and for Britain, but also a reminder that there is no room for complacency. The Labour Government will continue to do everything we can to protect communities across the North West and keep the economy growing. During this difficult period, Labour is taking action to help people in the North West back into work and to support local businesses.
We introduced the ‘Time to Pay’ scheme, which allows struggling companies to postpone tax payments and helps keep businesses afloat. We will continue to help local people who have lost their jobs to stay in their homes through our mortgage support schemes. While these figures suggest Labour’s economic policy is working, we will continue to take action to strengthen growth and promote jobs. As the IMF has said, while the economy is still recovering, it is crucial that the Labour Government maintains support for the local economy here in the North West and nationally. Today’s news underlines how dangerous it would be to throw caution to the wind, as the Tories propose, and make deep cuts now.

Labours 150 Apprentices

Thanks to funding from our Labour Government, Wirral Borough Council in partnership with local companies have been able to invest in our young people by creating 100 apprenticeships. Not only that, I am able announce that the scheme has been extended to create an extra 50 apprentices.

I welcome the commitment from both the Government and the local authority to our young people, as in the current climate it is of the upmost importance that we help young people gain the skills they need and help our small companies grow, by funding apprenticeships we are doing both

The IMF Praises Gordon Brown And Backs Labour On The Economy

Many Tories have since the financial crisis started predicted that Labour will eventually have to go running cap in hand to the IMF.

Again like everything else the facts prove that even in opposition how far out of their depth the Tories really are.

Dominique Strauss-Kahn who is the Managing Director of the IMF has been speaking at the annual CBI conference where he said that the “World owed a debt of gratitude to Gordon Brown”, he also backed Gordon Brown’s fiscal stimulus and warned that withdrawing the stimulus too early would be costlier than withdrawing it too late.

Compare that with the approach of David Cameron and the Tories who have promised an emergency budget within 50 days of winning the General Election so they can enact George Osborne’s ‘Age Of Austerity’ which really means savage cuts in the services that millions of ordinary rely upon, the banner below from Conservative Home says it all really

More evidence that the Tories can’t be trusted to manage a smile let alone be put in a position of power.
